Portslade Community Forum AGM 2009
Friday, 30th January. 6.30 - 9.00 pm @ Portslade Town Hall
1st Aniversary for Community Forum
Despite the bitter cold over 60 local people braved the weather to celebrate the first 12 months of the Portslade Community Forum. In addition to a tasty buffet, local participants enjoyed a range of activities put on by the Community Forum organising committee.
The evening’s activities started at 6.20pm with a food and networking session. There’s nothing quite like a good food and drink to get a community event off on the right foot and the tasty buffet, so well laid out by Lorette Mackie, our Community Development Worker, soon got people socialising with one another.
In addition to the buffet, a number of community groups and organisations had prepared display stalls. The Portslade WRVS heritage plus project display included an excellent hand crafted tea set reminiscent of the kind used for ‘best’ during the war. Portslade and Mile Oak Libraries, North Portslade Community Allotment, Portslade Active 4 Life, Brighton & Hove Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Novas Scarman – who funded Healthy Neighbourhood Funding also had stalls at the event. Pablo Perez also presented his much praised ‘Beyond Boundary Road’ community photography exhibition.
Once the room was full and buzzing Forum Chair, Lyn Strong, welcomed everyone to the AGM and introduced Rod Patterson who acted as Quiz master for a quiz in Portslade. This was followed by the AGM ‘business’ where the annual report and accounts were presented and a new committee elected. Both the AGM & Annual Reports will be posted here in due course.
After the ‘official’ business of the evening was complete, local drama group – Drama 4 Fun performed a small part of the recent Panto (Toys in Trouble!) which received funds from the Forum via Healthy Neighbourhood Funding (http://www.drama4fun.com)
After the panto, Pastores Ensemble (http://www.adurfestival.com/events/albions-best-the-pastores-ensemble.htm) played a medley before the evening drew to a close around 9pm.
A big thanks to everyone involved in working so hard to prepare the evening’s activities and to everyone who came and enjoyed the fun.
